We flew to Hilo to attend a special mass in remembrance of my dear grandma. It's been a year since she passed and I miss talking to her, laughing with her, singing with her, praying with her. We put flowers on her grave, as well as my parents and other grandparents. It was nice to spend the morning with my kids casually driving to the different cemeteries, visiting and cleaning each grave. That's something I grew up doing in Hilo with my parents on the weekends, but don't do with my own family here on Oahu.

Although it was a brief trip home, we managed to squeeze in a visit to the Akaka Falls State Park. It's a short hike to get to the Akaka Falls lookout, but the trail is paved and you do cross a couple bridges with mini waterfalls flowing underneath. There's also some stairs with railings. We just took our time meandering and observed the landscape around us. It's very lush with lots of colorful tropical flora, including a bamboo forest. But the gem of the park is really the 442-foot waterfall. It was gorgeous that day.

The Akaka Falls hike was my idea, and it was my kids who insisted we pick up okazuya from Kawamoto's. Everything was delicious!
