I'll be heading back to Hilo again soon, so my family and I spent another day snorkeling together at Hanauma Bay.

This time I saw two male blackspot sergeant damselfishes with their male reproductive colors. This change happens for about 36 hours while they nest, court, and spawn. Normally their colors are a lot lighter.

I heard this regal parrotfish scraping algae off the reef before I saw it. But what a magnificent sight it was when I did see it! Look at those colors! This supermale was easy to recognize because of its crescent-shaped tail and sheer size. Regals also have a narrow blue line running from the upper lip to below the eye.
