About twice a week I head to Kapi'olani Park for some exercise. I usually stay clear of the park's bandstand and pond area because that's where park-goers (mainly parents with their toddler children) sometimes feed flocks of pigeons. Birds don't normally bother me except when they go all kamikaze (like when a little kid is chasing after them!) I don't want to have a head-on collision with one or worse yet, get pooped on.

But as I passed by today there were no toddlers or birds in sight, just some ducks chilling in the pond. The perfect time for me to stroll through this peaceful spot in the park and check out the neat metal dragonfly sculpture ("Pinao") in the pond and the two statues placed there, one of the little girl "Joy" and the other a life-sized statue of the regal Queen Kapi'olani.

Have you ever tried looking for all the public statues and sculptures around Oahu? Once when my kids were little we had our own "works of art scavenger hunt" in Downtown Honolulu and Chinatown. It was fun to try and find all of them, it was free and educational, and the walking tired my kids out!
